Appeal for Funds

We are spending a lot of money because a lot of things are happening.  For example - the candidate surveys cost:

Office Depot $258.44
1colorcopies.com $280.00
Postage $364.32
total $902.76
We still need to pay for the 4th qtr EIR and last week's appeal in CLIFFNotes and on Facebook generated $680.00 - thank you!

If you haven't donated for a while and are in a position to do so - please  click here.

And we are going to have an early presale on the 2011 legalizeferrets.org calendar shortly.  Below is a sneak peek.

How do you Fly Ferrets to Brazil?

I'm from Brazil and after 8 years here in USA I decided that is time to go back, my family needs me. So I started checking the Brazilian laws to accept my pets and also the USA laws to prepare for my trip.

The Brazilian side will be very bureaucratic but it will be fine as long as I obey and get all the certificates they require. But now comes my problem, I know I won't be able to fly from California because of the stupid ban so I chose Las Vegas NV to be my first flight. First flight because there are no non-stop flights from here to Brazil and I don't want my babies to spend 16hrs inside an airplane, so I will fly to Miami FL, it’s a 4hs flight only. I'll spend a night in Miami just to let my carpet sharks rest a little bit before we catch on the next day a flight from Miami to Brazil, this flight is about 8hrs straight to my hometown Sao Paulo.

My issue is, Ferrets are considered by both governments an exotic animal and very fragile so they don't recommend to ship them in the cargo area, they say the chances to survive are reduced drastically and since they are domesticated and they can fit in a kennel, I should take them with me inside the cabin and put them under my seat. So I started checking all the airlines and their policies and procedures and my Ferrets fit in all their requirements, the size, the age, the kennel, the licenses, etc, the only problem is, all the airlines (American Airlines, Delta, US Airways, TAM, Southwest, Continental) only accept dogs, cats and birds in the cabin, nothing else.

Some of the call center attendants didn't even know what a Ferret is. Why in the hell they accept mammals, carnivores, with fur, 4 paws, but they don’t accept my kids???

This is my final question, has anybody ever caught a flight national or international with your Ferrets inside the cabin with you? If yes, which company? How did you do it? Are there any specialists or Pet Transportation companies out there that can do the service?

Mauricio is very anxious to hear from anyone with an answer or suggestion!

Candidate Surveys Almost All Done

Our extensive candidate surveys are almost all done and about 50 were mailed Saturday.  They were a lot of expense and work but hopefully will yield more support and a legislative sponsor next year.  We will publish every response on our webpage and Joe Ferret's Facebook page.

First to be mailed, and sent by certified mail  were Jerry Brown's and Meg Whitman's.  Ironically at a cost of $6.66 each.  If neither responds get ready to write in Joe Ferret for Governor.  But really - we want the candidates for governor along with those running for State Senator and State Assembly to support ferret legalization next year!

Expect to see some results next week!

Even more fun will be when we send out media kits to all the Editorial Boards we can find.  We really want the opinon leaders to agree with us - "Yes, it is past time ferrets were legal."  So far, it is super hard to be taken seriously but are are hoping for a little respect.  The media kits will be in the mail in about two weeks.

EIR Research is Done - Still Waiting for the Master Report

As mentioned in last week's CLIFFNotes, the research needed to file the Environmental Impact Report is done.  Geo, our chief researcher and author is finishing up on the final report which we intend to make available to everyone on line.

The research is then sent to the California Fish and Game Commission who file a "Notice of Preparation." So hopefully - we are on our way but we will have to see if  the Fish and Game puts up any obstacles and who they chose to do the actual EIR and what that is going to cost us.

Book Signing for Legalize Ferrets

Kat Richardson, our very own celebrity author recently had a book signing in Los Angeles at Mystery Books.  The proceeds went to us!

Thank you Kat (pictured extreme left). We even got some fan mail for you (below).

I recently bought all of Ms. Richardson's books after I read about it in CliffNotes the week before last. I had just started the first one and was surprised to see that Ms. Richardson had personally signed each and every book that I bought. I would like to  thank Ms. Richardson for taking time out of her busy schedule to make an effort to make her fellow legalize ferret crusaders feel special. I look forward to reading each of her books and look forward to reading about Chaos, her character's ferret.

Thank you again,

Patricia R.

In Conclusion
This is not a very exciting issue of CLIFFNotes.  There used to be local comic in San Diego who did a gig mocking the KPBS Pledge Drive.  Egads - that's what I feel like.

But exciting this are around the corner.  The final word on the EIR Report.  Responses from candidates should come in shortly. Our efforts to get media attention and some respect.

But in the mean time it stuffing envelopes and asking for money!

And of course there is always the excitement of finding lost ferrets.  Bailey got out today and we turned the house inside out looking for the little beast.  After an hour of going through the neighbor's underbrush - she was found in one of the bathrooms.

So stick with us and expect good thing!
