I found this on YouTube and since it has ferrets and corgis I wanted to share it!

I pulled these photos off of Flickr because I thought they were great.  Didn't anyone send me ferret photos last week?

Please Note:
Nobody actually bought the ads here, but I'd like to get some paid advertisements!  Dr Jenkins and Dr. Gandolfi have done so much for California ferrets, that I made these ads up to give them some well-deserved recognition. Please contact me if you'd like to advertise in CLIFFNotes and get your message out to the growing number of ferret enthusiasts reading this E'zine every Sunday.
Getting Our Ducks in a Row - Preparing for the EIR...Ducks in a row

We've heard from three consultants and only one submitted a bid to do an Environmental Impact Report.  We've learned a lot and the two consultants who didn't wish to bid still spent time with me trying to impart some knowledge.  I feel very confident this is the best way to proceed.

The brain team (as I call it) is working out the order of things so that we proceed in a manner that will do no harm, and will yield the most results for the least amount of money. We are teleconferencing Monday evening to bring us to our next steps. I hope to have some very positive announcements of how things are progressing in the next few weeks.

We received an encouraging email from our potential donor:

"I am very impressed at what you, your team of people, (and Ferrets Anonymous) have done so far. Your working as part of a team effort instead of alone seems extremely important to me.  I can see this as one of the key steps in achieving a favorable outcome   - (and an important pre-requisite for my donation)."

My New Ferret Blog

I am trying to launch my own company doing all sorts of technical stuff and one item I didn't know too much about was blogging.  CLIFFNotes is an E'zine (or Electronic Magazine) and has done remarkably well.  A blog is a more informal discussion of issues and is better suited for interaction.  Blogs are yet another way to build an Internet presence and drive traffic to a website.

Someone gave me some great software, and I have a new computer. At this rate, I'm going to be a technical genius (but I'm not quite there yet)!  The www.ferretsanon.com website is being redone, but it doesn't link to my blog yet. In the meantime, you can go there by visiting http://californiaferret.blogspot.com/.  I hope it will lead to more interest in ferret legalization in California and evolves into something worthwhile for the cause.

Problem at the Carlsbad, Palomar Airport Road Animal Shelter

I received a call last night from someone who's ferret got out and ended up at the Palomar Airport Road animal shelter.  Our ferret owner is not from around here and received a letter saying they had his ferret, come pick him up and pay $15 a day boarding fee.  (The ferret wore an ID tag).  When he went to claim the ferret they said it was ridiculous, ferrets aren't legal and it got into a nasty conversation.  (not a good sign, don't argue with animal control.)

Now the shelter is saying ferret rescue will take the ferret - but there is no ferret rescue in California anymore.  Does anyone have any contacts with this shelter?  Does anyone know who is "ferret rescue" in California these days?  The owner is obviously very upset.

This brings up two items:  How your ferret is treated at Animal Control depends on who is in charge when the ferret comes in.  To keep this from being a possibility, always cage your ferrets when you are not home, when you cannot supervise them, and when you are sleeping. You're not being cruel to your ferrets by insisting that they stay in their cage when they cannot be supervised. This is solely for their own safety, since all good ferret parents allow many hours of out-of-the-cage time each day for one-on-one playtime. One excellent cage is called a Ferret Nation. This cage (we prefer to call them a habitat) is made by Midwest Homes 4 Pets.  I ordered mine online and it took me about three hours & two cocktails, but Lance M. tells me he can put one together in 20 minutes.  Ferret Nation habitats are available at online retailers such as www.Ferret.com and Drs Foster and Smith.

Update on Slim, Wobbles and Otter

Note:  These three ferrets were abandoned in a park in San Francisco several months ago and our members donated about $500 for their vet care.

I wanted to write and give an update on Wobbles, Slim, and Otter...  I know my friends ask how they are doing so I figure all those kind folks who helped us before would probably love to have an update too :)

Wobbles, Slim, and Otter have settled right into our home and lives.

They've all bloomed under good food, plenty of play time, and lots of hugs, and three wonderful personalities have come out.  Otter is a wild woman, always looking to play; Slim is the first lap ferret I've ever known who loves to be held and cuddled; and Wobbles is curious and adventurous, never letting her disability get her down.

We continue to work on getting Slim and Wobbles healthy... Slim is on medication to combat IBD and will be starting treatment for adrenal tumors very soon.  Wobbles, our little crippled girl, will never walk normally, so we've created a special play pen for her where she can make the best of her legs.  Her heart (though big in spirit) is giving her some serious trouble, and we've just started her on medications and fluids to help with that.  She has some other health issues, but we're focusing on the ones we can do the most about with the help of our veterinarian.

Speaking of our veterinarian, Dr. Gandolfi has been incredible.  The time and attention he has given us and our furry family is amazing, and his knowledge and experience is stunning.  He is certainly on the long list of people we give our heartfelt thanks to.

Thanks for everything...  our lives have been so enriched by having these girls in our home, and by all the love and care people like you have offered!

Thanks-

Gwendolyn & Family

Lakeside Ferrets Need Forever Home

There is a pair of ferrets, females, three and four years old that need a new forever home.  The new owner has had them for a couple of months and doesn't think ferrets are for him.

We do have an adoption list but the three top people on it didn't want these ferrets. If you can provide a loving home, have lots of room on your Visa card and keep these girls together please email gaut1@cox.net and plead your case. We're sure that these two little ladies will be happy to have a forever home with whomever can take the responsibility for them.

Ferrets Magazine Goes Green?

Ferrets Magazine, the publication we all know and love has published its last magazine with the March/April 2008 issue. The publisher of Ferrets Magazine, Bowtie Inc will continue to produce the magazine as an online resource online at www.FerretsMagazine.com and plans to have the site fully launched by April, 2008 and promises a greater level of interactivity with readers. We're sad to see this quality publication leave the newsstands as it was yet another way to increase ferret visibility here in California - but on a positive note, the website will be free to all and may become an excellent resource.

In Conclusion...

Great things are happening.  There are still many details to smooth out but we are very enthusiastic about the EIR.  Things could still go wrong, and the DFG has a history of being absurd on issues regarding the legalization of domestic ferrets - but I have a sense that we are finally doing the right thing.  As my mother used to tell me, "when all else fails - read the directions."

If you aren't a member of the 3000 Club, please join.  That is how we pay the bills around here.  Feel free to donate and order merchandise.  If you are interested in ferret legalization, I think we've earned your support!
