Member SubmissionsI lost my last ferret January 31st and it has been hard not having them. I would love to see these precious angels legalized, but at the same time, I'm so afraid that people will buy them as babies and then when they find out they bite, and smell and get into everything, that they will dump them off at the shelters!!! How do you feel about that? I made a vow to never get anymore unless they are legalized because I don't feel you can truly give them the life they deserve, like taking them out Anyway, once again, thank you for all you do, and let me know what you think about my concern. Have a great day. Kim O CliffordNote - Clifford was a ferret found in someone's backyard. He did a stint as a chew toy for a German Shepard and Rhodesian Ridgeback. Originally we thought his back was broken, but that wasn't the case. Luck has been with Clifford.
Clifford is still doin' great! He's not using his leg 100%, but he is getting to be pretty mobile. The other night he managed to make his way up onto my bed and try to steal my arm [literally] while I was asleep! He did see my vet, and he was going to get another x-ray to check the alignment of his hips, but then he started getting up on his leg, so were going to hold off for now . We have to prop him up on it for the most part, which is fine. He'll be able to get up on it on his own in no time. His favorite toy so far, aside from the balls, is one of the hedgies little igloos. There's bedding in it, so when it's out he tries to dig it all up. Makes a huge mess and doesn't seem to understand that his butt is a little too big to fit in there, but if he's happy, great

| This is what it is like to get info about the status of our EIR. Dawn was drafted as the liaison. |
I emailed Dawn and asked her for info on the EIR and this is what I got:
We need help focusing on other things.
If you can help with either (or both) please contact Dawn at ocferrets@yahoo.com
It's Raining FerretsWe've had three calls for people looking to place their ferrets this week. A lot of people are losing their homes as the economy continues to tank - and California is one of the hardest hit states in this recession.
I didn't have enough people on the adoption list.
We have a 2 year old male ferret in Visalia who needs a new home.
The other two people didn't follow up or their emails got lost in cyberspace. If you want to be on our adoption list, please let me know. If you wish to adopt the ferret in Visalia send me a paragraph on what a great home you would be and I will send it to the owner.
I did knock one person off the adoption list who didn't want to pay a modest vet bill. All ferrets that come through our adoption list where we don't have any history have a check up before adoption. If someone doesn't want to pay the $50 or $100 vet bill I don't think ferrets are right for them.
By the way - I stole the umbrella off the Internet so the least I can do is give them credit. It is list for sale at $40 at http://www.animalden.com/umbrellaferret.html.
We also got a more than usual number of calls from people planning on driving ferrets into California. Does anyone have any recent experience going through the agricultural checkpoints, especially back from Las Vegas? We'll share the experience in the next CLIFFNotes.
After Tuesday we'll have a good idea of who in the state assembly and state senate will be open to carrying a ferret bill next year. We didn't get a lot of responses, but we'd be happy to have one great advocate like Jan Goldsmith or Dede Alpert.
It is going to be a Democratic day on election day. While people are gung-ho and think every votes counts, we're still in California where special interest is the name of the game. Those candidates who were kind enough to answer our question were more likely to be the underdog in the race. The professionals stayed away.
With one notable exception. Senator Dave Cox, a Republican in the first senate district. Here is his answer. Not much for words, but we have it in black and white.
If you haven't already - check out;
The checking account is filling up a little bit. The end of the year has extra expenses. Thank you to everyone who has donated recently.
The re-write of www.legalizeferrets.org is about done, though the website has not been updated. I did hire a professional copywriter to help us get the word out. The goal is to get more subscribers, members of the 3000 Club and donors.
Money is tight for a lot of people - including me! It is very painful to hear of people giving up their ferrets after losing their houses. How I long for the good ol' days. I just hope one of my ferrets doesn't get sick, because I wouldn't have the funds.
Thank you for your support. Our list is growing and there are a lot of people interested in ferrets. In fact, we get a lot of calls about ferrets for Christmas. Demand goes up and supply goes down - baby ferrets are not too common at Christmas time.
