Dr Jenkins to talk on rabies

Dr Jeff Jenkins of San Diego's Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital will base his talk on rabies. Perhaps more of a political issue than a health issue for ferrets, every ferret owner needs to be aware of what rabies vaccinations mean to your ferret and the health department.

Legalize Ferrets Revival is Next Saturday, Oct 11th - King's Inn in San Diego

Will enough people attend to bring us the enthusiasm we need? Click Here For Details

The easiest way to make reservations is through this page.

Next Saturday should be a key date in ferret legalization efforts. The third annual Legalize Ferrets Revival is about ferret legalization through an Environmental Impact Report. Dr Geo Graening of Natural Investigations, my choice for an EIR consultant, is going to give us our options.

So far 33 people have signed up. 16 people have ordered the dinner. In order to get the hotel room at no additional cost, I've committed for 30 dinners, so I need to sell 14 more.

If you are planning on attending, please call or email. If money is an issue, please let me know. The more people who attend the more energy we can achieve. If someone is interested in ferret legalization I'd really like them to attend. I will give out some complimentary tickets.

Pat Wright, CLIFFNotes@legalizeferrets.org or (619) 303-0645

There has been some media interest in this Revival, which is normal because we are actually expecting to change directions and accomplish something. Hope for an historic day and please try to be there!

Election Update

By now candidates for the California state assembly and state senate have had time to answer our survey. Only a few have bothered, but we did get some good information about who we can talk to if we need a sponsor next year.

It is truly tragic that most people who want to represent us don't want to talk to us. They don't need to, they need to talk to the powerful, well-financed people who are paying for their campaigns. One reason our country is in such serious trouble.

Please make sure that you become informed by visiting http://www.ferretsanon.com/2008Election/senateholder.html and http://www.ferretsanon.com/2008Election/assemblyholder.html. And feel free to communicate to these candidates either thanking them for their position or asking why they haven't answered.

San Diego Animal Control Won't Release Ferret To Rescue Group

A San Diego ferret ended up in Animal Control custody, apparently lost and turned in by the people who found her. The owners asked for help. I referred them to our attorney.

The word we hear is that if your ferret is confiscated you have the right to transport it out of state to people of your choice. But the authorities frown on this. I know first hand the good a lawyer can do - and when confronted with an attorney, Animal Control has always relented. Lawyers aren't free though.

The ferret's owners report that San Diego Animal Control wouldn't allow Los Angeles-based people with a CDFA (California Domestic Ferret Association) to transport the ferret. Animal Control has told them the ferret is going somewhere to Arizona and if the people keep asking about their ferret they risk being issued a citation for possession of an illegal animal. (which is very rare.)

If anyone has had their ferret confiscated and had to deal with Animal Control or the Dept of Fish and Game please let me know. I do recommend an attorney, but not everyone can afford that.

First Annual Ferret Legalization Ride: Fun in El Cajon, CA

Last weekend, about 50 ferret-lovers and 10 motorcycle-riding ferret lovers converged on a park in El Cajon, CA. This was the end of a 100-mile motorcycle ride to promote ferret legalization. Nearly $1,000 was raised and donated to California's only non-profit educational organziation, CDFEA (California Domestic Ferret Educational Alliance).  While the turnout wasn't large, the ride went well and everyone who rode arrived safely. The BBQ afterwards was a great time for all who attended.

-We hope to see even more ferret enthusiasts at next year's ride. For info on the Second Annual Ride, email  keep your eyes peeled on CLIFFNotes, as well as in the FA Paw Print Newsletter and on OCFerrets' website. Photos from the ride and the BBQ are online at the OCFerrets website: http://www.ocferrets.org/ferret-ride.html

Ever wonder what to do with old socks that have holes in the heels, or that sock that was left single because the dryer ate its pair…..They make wonderful sweaters!

In Conclusion

My apologies to Lance last week. i call him when I am done with CLIFFNotes every Sunday and ask him to add any content and look over my content. Ii didn't give him enough time last week and his hard work was for naught! Sorry Lance!

I've also been anxious about if we are going to have enough people at the Legalize Ferrets Revival next Saturday. I sent out an email with a form for people to fill out. It worked well in practice, but my apologies the form didn't work out after I sent it. A few people let me know they are coming anyway.

If you are coming but haven't reserved, please let me know. You could save me some pepto-bismo moments here!

After the Revival we should have a different focus - the EIR. I have heard the "working group" does have some preliminary research done for us. They also said they won't communicate except for sending an invoice! Sounds like a Dilbert moment to me! Too bad they won't be attending the communication workshop!

But I am excited to finally get this off the ground. Why didn't we do this years ago?

Stay safe.
