Note to photographer, you need a higher speed for this ferret!

Another note - the tune "Everybody was kung-fu fighting" goes through mind as I post this photo.  Make a video of your ferrets and enter them in our YouTube Contest!

Just before putting CLIFFNotes together a second video was entered - I don't know what to think about this one - I thought my computer had a virus when playing it.

Check it out here -

The Rumor Mill

We recently received this email:

To whom it may concern,

I heard this, and I just wanted to warn whoever I can. My uncle works with someone who lives with a fish and game representative. According to his friend, California Fish and Game is planning a sting operation to catch ferret owners and take away their ferrets. I’m not sure how they are going to do it, but I’m just worried that good people are going to get caught and innocent ferrets are going to be taken away. I don’t know if you can do anything to warn them or even if you already heard about this, but I didn’t know who else to tell.

My Response - I appreciate the head's up but I'm not worried about this.  We hear this rumor occasionally, along with the one about ferrets being legalized, and what?  No one told us?!

I believe it was Abraham Lincoln (at least this saying was on a wall calendar the month I worked at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law) said "the quickest way to overturn a bad law is to strictly enforce it."  The folks at the Department of Fish and Game know this.  Plus -  California is way broke.  The state has no money for this kind of thing.  If word got out they were blowing money on a ferret sting the press would have a field day.  Then again - perhaps they can use tobacco tax funds again.

But be safe, don't walk your ferrets in public or take unnecessary chances.  And for all our fear about a DFG raid, hundreds of ferrets are killed by recliners, the dog, dishwashers, etc.  Please worry about those more.

SD Pets Magazine Has Ferret Article

SD Pets, a publication of the Union Tribune newspaper has published an article on ferrets, "Ferrets: friends or foes?"  No doubt the publisher, not the writer chose that title.  Who thinks of a ferret as a foe?  What do people think they are going to do - hold up liquor stores?  - What a non-issue this should be!

However, a big thanks for Jo Brickner at the Union Tribune for giving our story the light of day.

I did not see a copyright or don't copy notice in the magazine, so you can read the article here. http://www.ferretsanon.com/CLIFFNotes/SDPetsArticle.pdf

Tuesday is Election Day

And I'm not voting.  I'm not registered in any political party and there are no issues worth voting for or against.

But, in the city of San Diego Judge Jan Goldsmith is running for City Attorney.  He was the first legislator to carry a ferret legalization bill and it would be great to have him as City Attorney.

After the primary we will ask every candidate for state assembly and state senate to consider carrying a ferret legalization bill in 2009.  We should have some proof to back up our claims.  While sitting legislators had no interest in the matter for the past two years - candidates often will listen to us.  We will post every response we get on a website.

Last time we did this, I was chairman of Ferrets Anonymous - a lot of candidates didn't answer thinking it was a joke.  We can't let that happen again.

Git Yer Motor Runnin' - Ride for Ferrets 2008

There is a motorcycle ride for ferret education and legalization that is in its planning stages that will be happening in the area of Julian in September or October. More details will be made available as they develop for this First Annual Event. If you would like to ride in the event or sponsor this event with prizes, cash donations, food for the BBQ at the end of the ride, or are part of a killer garage band that would like to play for (free) for a fun group of people, then please email ferretlegalizationride@yahoo.com for more information. This event will be hosted by Orange County Ferrets & San Diego Ferrets Anonymous to benefit CDFEA, California's most active, and fastest-growing non-profit Ferret Educational corporation.

In Conclusion...

Thank you everyone for your continued support.

Not a lot going on this week but in the weeks ahead we'll be reporting on the Environmental Study, The next Legalize Ferrets Revival, the 2008 election for state assembly and state senate in California - and we hope for changes in Ferrets Anonymous including the launch of their new paper newsletter which we will distribute electronically.
