Ferrets Anonymous (FA) Elects New Board
Ferrets Anonymous met yesterday in Pittsburg, California for the 15th Annual Ferrets Anonymous Round Up, FA's annual meeting and elected new officers. This is the first major turn over for FA in about ten years. The new officers are:
Lance M. filed this brief report: First he mentioned that there were around 40 FA members in attendance this year. Several chapters and others came out to sell ferret-related items at vendor tables. Kimberly B. did a great job using the limitations she was given to produce an interesting and extremely well-planned Round Up. Speakers were all given time slots to fill which they did without running over. Speakers included: Rene Gandolfi DVM, Donna Holstein - Missing Animal Response, Leatherface - an actor and pro-legalization advocate, and our new FA President - Lance M. Even though this year's Round Up was shorter than usual, everyone had a chance to have their say - including chapter heads who gave updates on their chapters' doings over the past year. Two new chapters are in the works in the Los Angeles Bay area, as well as in Riverside - so our numbers are growing!
FA Update: Lance said that he will be meeting with Claudia to get the information to start handling all FA email, telephone calls, etc. in the coming weeks. The future of the FA website (www.ferretsanonymous.com) is still to be determined. He will also be taking over the FA Pawprint, and be writing and taking contributions for the FA newsletter. He will need a bulk mailing permit and needed to know how to get one for our use.
Perhaps my expectations are a little out of line - but check out my blog on this item. Congratulations to everyone! In Trouble Over Bad Reporting
"Let me explain one more time. An EIR is part of CEQA.
an Initial Study is part of CEQA, the first part of the process. If the IS (Initial Study) determines that significant impacts may occur that could be mitigated, it becomes a Mitigated Negative Declaration, (MND) which is part of CEQA. If it is possible that impacts may not be able to be mitigated, then an EIR will be required for sure. You misused my words in your last cliff notes. I never said that we could get by with an initial Study. What I said was that was the first step in determining what would be needed next. I believe that legalizing ferrets in CA could happen with a Mitigated Negative Declaration, in that no breeding would be allowed, and only neutered or spade ferrets would be allowed to be brought in. Which is essentially what is already happening. This is oversimplifying it by a long shot however. It is very frustrating to read your news when you continue to misstate the situation. Please spend ten minutes online and research what CEQA is and how an EIR is part of it. Senate Bill 89 explained it very well."
Thank you.

We need help!
It is always difficult that the big Orange County Pet Expo comes right after the Ferret Round Up - but last year we signed up over 300 people to receive CLIFFNotes. We will have a table next month. Unlike last year, the "LegalizeFerrets.org" booth is not next to the Ferrets Anonymous booth.
I am ordering a professionally done 10'x3' LegalizeFerrets.org banner and hope to have better literature. We aren't selling anything because we don't have a reseller's permit. We can't even sell memberships or take donations!
But this is our most sucessful event of the year and if you can help - please email me.
Last year Lance and Dawn forced me to stay until closing! -And I don't want that to happen this year because I'll have to go home and write CLIFFNotes - so please help. -This year, Lance & Dawn can't devote their whole weekend to the both, so we need volunteers to help! If you have any suggestions on our booth, I'd appreciate that as well.
Las Vegas - Anyone?
Now that the Round Up is over, I'm thinking of having the next Legalize Ferrets Revival in Las Vegas this September. The major reason is that we can have ferrets at this event, unlike any event that is public in California. However, I can't find any ferret organization in Las Vegas. Obviously people shouldn't bring their ferrets to Las Vegas for fear of trying to get them safely home to California, but perhaps we could have some hands on time with them including training and behavior issues.
The goal is to have 100 people at a Revival, and having the event in Las Vegas would mean added costs.
Is there enough interest for this? Does anyone have any Las Vegas ferret contacts that can help us pull this off? In Conclusion...
It looks like things are moving in the right direction. Readership last week was the highest ever. In the weeks ahead I hope to provide a detail progress report on our EIR efforts.
If you haven't supported us yet - I'm asking you to do so now. No other ferret legalization effort has made the progress we've achieved, and no other group reaches as many people every week. Where would ferret legalization be without our efforts? I'd like to see more members in the 3000 Club. It is a way to count how many people are willing to put up a little money (starting at $5 for students - $10 for others) and publicly support legalization.
We still have all those t-shirts, coffee mugs, pins and stickers - going fast. Shop here. Or make a donation.
Our new merchandise, with theme "Ferrets Are More Fun" are probably a couple months away.

Try it free one month. If you are a ferret vet or in the ferret business, send me your business card and I will run it once for free. Then it is $10 a month.
